Skincare Ingredients for Safe Skin Care

Skincare IngredientsNo matter what results we’re looking for from a skincare product the attention to skincare ingredients equates with safe skin care product usage.  Over the years much attention has been given to ingredients used in the cosmetic and skincare industry in spite of the fact that the industry is for the most part, unregulated. Clinical testing performed by independent researchers substantiates the health risks certain chemicals typically used in skin care products pose to our health.  It is up to us, the consumers, to pay some attention to the finer details of the products we use.

The Matter of  Skin Care Safety

Safe skin care starts with a close look at the label ingredients of a product. Sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what the ingredients mean, so it might require a bit of research. Companies who manufacture their own products, such as Xtend Life, help make researching a little easier by providing detailed information on their website.

The caveat is that often times what the label states can be misleading, as I recently discussed in another post with regards to skin care ingredients and international skincare labeling laws.

One of the first things to consider is which of the skincare ingredients actually does the job that the manufacturers claim. Often, only a small handful of the ingredients truly work on the effects of skin aging, and unfortunately these are often included in such small concentrations that they’re likely to be limited in their effectiveness. The majority of the ingredients may just be filler to save on costs.

It would be wise to research what short and long term effects any ingredient may have on your skin. Most skincare products aren’t completely natural – far from it, in fact. Knowing what a product contains helps you to make conscious decisions about what you’re putting not only onto but into your body.

The most important thing is to find the balance between safety and effectiveness. This is why I chose the Xtend Life products: their core ethic is to balance what gives results and develope safe skin care products with ingredients that don’t produce health risks.

A Closer Look at Skincare Ingredients

Many people are unaware of the fact that the ingredients we put onto our skin are ultimately absorbed into our blood stream. In this respect, applying a cream to your face, for example, isn’t much different to directly eating it – it will affect the body either way.

Choosing skincare products with ingredients that could be safely ingested (not recommended, of course!) can help to bring peace of mind that they are safe for your body as a whole.   However, there is a size-able list of skincare ingredients to avoid including those listed as: allergens, parabens, or the least harmful sounding one: fragrances.

Let’s take a look at Fragrances. This sounds like quite a harmless ingredient, right?  In fact it sounds almost romantic. But be aware: this single listed ingredient item can include more than 4,000 separate ingredients (not listed), many of which can be toxic or carcinogenic.  Other serious affects of the various fragrances can:

  • affect the central nervous system
  • cause depression
  • produce hyperactivity and irritability

Note: Xtend Life elects not to include any fragrances in their skincare products.

Xtend Life Products

If you want more information about skincare ingredients, then I recommend you take a look at the safe skin care philosophy behind Xtend-Life products. They assert that all of their products contain the most natural of ingredients using  processing methods which do not alter the natural properties of an ingredient that may cause negative health issues. In other words: safe skin care.
