She Suffered Not Facial Aging; What Happened to Me?!

She had a radiance about her…glowing skin, eyes sparkled with a smile that always lit up a room. Wrinkles were minimal on that beautiful face; she did not suffer facial aging.

Today is the anniversary of my Mom’s passing twelve years ago. I take an hour on this date for a little ritual of sitting quietly, reflecting on all the gifts she bestowed upon us, her four offspring, over the years.  She gave me the love of books, animals and a fierce entrepreneurial spirit; she taught, through example, about compassion and kindness and unconditional love.

But there was one thing I did not receive from my beloved Mom:her genetic disposition for flawless skin.

Growing up in the early sixties in California as a teenager the rage was to get the deepest tan possible. Baby oil slathered, roasting on reflective towels, hours spent burning the skin to a fiery engine red.

Dumb? You betcha! But back then there was little concern or information to sun damage of overexposed skin.  Or at least such info was not publicized or advertised. In fact, one particular suntan lotion company encouraged a deep tan from early childhood…those of you old enough will remember the ads with a little blond child in diapers…with a deep bronze tan line displayed by the help of her puppy.!

Eventually the realization (thanks to a mirror!) took hold that it would be smart to start paying closer attention to the care of my skin. Less sun, more water, more fruits and veggies. And really good skin care products but that was the caveat…finding the really good stuff.

It never dawned on me to be concerned with the ingredients found in anti aging skin care products. But an article piqued my concern and from then on I began to read and learn and review both facial aging skin and general health products for safety and overall effectiveness. Today, reading labels and researching companies happens before a purchase…being very selective about what goes onto my skin and in my body.

Knowledge is powerful and the more we know about the ingredients of what goes on and in our bodies…the healthier we will be. Facial aging can be kept at bay and reversed in some cases with the right natural, effective and safe anti aging skin care products.

Mom would have appreciated this in spite of her flawless skin self.
